This position is a waterfront engineering (field engineering) position where candidates will be supporting the new construction of Virginia Class Submarines in our Structural Fabrication Assembly area, Rafted Module Facility, and our state-of-the-art Joint Manufacturing Assembly Facility, as well as many other shops and facilities as needed. This is a hands-on position where candidates will spend at least 25% of working hours on the ship or interacting with mechanics/trades personnel to resolve manufacturing issues during the submarine construction process. Candidates should expect to be working in a construction environment on a daily basis. Candidates will be expected to review product drawings, ship-check as-built conditions of the product, interact with construction trades and then formulate technically sound engineering resolutions.

 

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Newport News Shipbuilding has an opportunity for a NDT Engineer to join their team! This position may require frequent travel to Newport News Shipbuilding suppliers to conduct NDT audits of critical component suppliers.  It’s desirable that candidates have knowledge of NAVSEA fabrication and NDT specifications, Coded Notes, Standard Clauses and Purchase Orders such that non-compliance issues can readily be identified and effectively communicated to the suppliers’ senior management.

This position is intended for the Propulsion Plant Data Entry/Display Terminal (PP-DE/DT) team within the Control and Information Systems (CIS) section of Department E70 (Propulsion Plant Planning Yard). The incumbent will be responsible for software testing, technical writing, and other efforts associated with the lifecycle management of a commercial laptop used in propulsion plant operations and its associated hardware (peripheral devices and accessories) and software (disk image). This may include preparation and/or peer review of technical manual changes, approval letters, interdepartmental memos, liaison action request responses, testing documentation, etc. This position regularly communicates with management/engineers across the PPPY and other NNS departments, and may occasionally communicate with the Navy, NNL, and outside vendors, via email, phone, and meetings.

This requisition is for a Manager Engineer 2 position in the A4W Reactor Plant Planning Yard’s (RPPY) Shielding / Ship Fabrication group.  The candidate will lead a group of engineers and designers supporting the maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN68 Class aircraft carriers.  The candidate will lead various efforts including Ship Alteration development of both nuclear and non-nuclear structural ship alteration products, structural foundation design, nuclear lifting and handling, robotic inspection techniques, and the maintenance of nuclear cognizant structure and components (such as deck grating, reactor ventilation ducts, foundations, and tank/bilge/coating inspections).  Additionally, the candidate will support the operational readiness of the CVN68 Class fleet through adjudication of LARs which may also require ship access.  Direct experience related to CVN68 Class ships is preferred as well as first-hand knowledge of ship arrangements
